When Should I Use the Oxygen?

  • For maximum recovery, relief, and performance, use the oxygen when sleeping. Research has found that using oxygen for four or more hours while sleeping is most beneficial.
  • If you don’t use it while sleeping, 3 sessions per day for 30–45 minutes each session and for an hour before going to bed does wonders for altitude symptoms and recovery from athletics.
  • If you just arrived at altitude, the sooner you start using it, the less likely you’ll have altitude symptoms. Don’t wait too long.
  • You’ll get the best results if used a minimum of 45 minutes for each session. But feel free to use it for 15–20 minutes during the day for a quick recharge or before and after activity.
Using oxygen

  1. Attach cannula (nose piece tube) to the silver outlet on machine.
  2. Plug machine into wall and turn machine on.
  3. Adjust Flow Control so bottom of ball is at “2”. Adjust to “4” if two people are using it at once.
  4. Hold cannula on either side of nasal prongs, insert prongs into nose, draw hands up to ears. Tube wraps over top of ears then down under chin. Nose piece should be comfortable. No need to have it tight.
Stationary Oxygen Setup

At 7000 feet you will breathe in 25% to 30% less oxygen per breath compared to sea level. Less oxygen means restless sleeping, slowed recovery, headaches, increased fatigue, and reduced athletic performance.

Research shows sleeping with oxygen at “2” is similar to sleeping at sea level and helps eliminate altitude effects. Drinking more fluids won’t reduce altitude effects, but it does help with dehydration, which is common in the dry mountain air.

Rent Oxygen provides oxygen for Sport and Recreation purposes only. If you believe you are having a medical emergency, contact medical professionals. If you are using oxygen for a medical condition, a prescription is required. Parents of those under 18, please consult with your doctor.

Single Connector

Enclosed is a  small plastic single connector, which can be used to connect a single cannula to the included generic tubing extension, typically 7 or 14 feet in length.

Y-Connector

Enclosed is a small Y-connector, which is used when two people are sharing the machine.  With two people, set the oxygen flow to 4, so each person receives 2 liters per minute.  Note: The Y-connector does not attach directly to the machine’s silver-colored outlet. First, connect the 7 or 14 foot extension tube to the machine, then attach the Y-connector to that extension. Finally, attach each individual’s nasal cannula to the Y-connector.

CPAP Adapters

If you use a CPAP/BIPAP machine and requested an oxygen adapter, it is included in your bag. Most oxygen adapters fit between your machine and the hose. In some setups, the adapter may need to be placed between the hose and your face mask.
